How to Replace the Tips on Your Water Flosser
Replacing the tips on your water flosser is essential for maintaining its effectiveness and ensuring good hygiene. Here's a step-by-step guide on how to replace the tips:
Turn Off and Unplug: Ensure that your water flosser is turned off and disconnected from the power source to avoid any accidents while changing the tip.- Locate the Tip Eject Button: Most water flossers have a tip eject button on the handle. This button is used to release the old tip from the unit.
- Press the Eject Button: Gently press the eject button, and the old tip should pop out or become loose enough to remove by hand.
- Remove the Old Tip: Once the tip is ejected, carefully pull it out from the handle. If it's damaged or worn out, dispose of it properly or set it aside for cleaning if it's still in good condition.
- Inspect the Connection Point: Before inserting the new tip, check the connection point on the handle to ensure it's clean and free of debris.
- Insert the New Tip: Align the new tip with the connection point on the handle and push it in firmly until it clicks into place. Ensure it's securely attached and won't leak.
- Test the New Tip: Turn on the water flosser and test the new tip to make sure the water flow is correct and the tip is functioning as it should.
- Clean the New Tip: Before first use, clean the new tip by soaking it in a solution of hydrogen peroxide or white vinegar for 5-7 minutes, then rinse it under warm water.
It's recommended to replace the Classic Jet Tip, Implant Denture Tip, and Tongue Cleaner every 6 months, while tips with bristles, such as the Plaque Seeker™ Tip, Orthodontic Tip, Pik Pocket™ Tip, and Toothbrush Tip, should be replaced every 3 months. Regular replacement ensures optimal performance and hygiene.
After each use, it's also a good practice to clean the water flosser's reservoir and the new tip to prevent the buildup of bacteria or mineral deposits. For a deep clean, you can use a mixture of water and white vinegar or hydrogen peroxide.
